7 Types of Garmin MAP

Garmin offers a range of mapping solutions designed to support various outdoor activities. The company states that its premium outdoor maps provide detailed mapping, updated location data, and navigation support, allowing users to focus on their activities without concerns about losing their way. Garmin’s mapping options cater to outdoor pursuits, including hiking, running, cycling, hunting, diving, fishing, and skiing.

TopoActive Maps are available for hiking and trail running, providing topographic detail, road-routable maps, and turn-by-turn navigation. These maps come preloaded on several Garmin outdoor devices, including fēnix smartwatches, GPSMAP 67 handhelds, and Montana 700 series devices. Based on the OpenStreetMap database, TopoActive maps display summits, national and local parks, coastlines, lakes, rivers, and points of interest such as streets, trails, restaurants, and parking areas. For users seeking additional features, an Outdoor Maps+ subscription offers enhanced TOPO maps, high-resolution satellite imagery, and raster maps, updated regularly via Wi-Fi.

For cyclists, Garmin provides mapping features that are compatible with its Edge devices. The Edge 540 and Edge 840 series come with preloaded cycling maps, searchable points of interest, and turn-by-turn directions. These devices also include Trailforks trail content, which is beneficial for mountain biking and allows users to swap maps for free via Garmin Express.

Hunting maps include Outdoor Maps+ and Garmin HuntView Plus. Outdoor Maps+ provides parcel boundaries, public land maps, hunting units, and satellite imagery for all 50 US states. HuntView Plus offers similar content but is sold by the state and is available for download or as a preloaded SD card.

SkiView resort maps are available on compatible Garmin devices, covering more than 2,000 ski resorts globally. These maps display run names and difficulty ratings, providing skiers with an overview of available trails.

Golf mapping solutions include access to over 43,000 preloaded golf course maps via Garmin golf watches. These full-colour CourseView maps allow users to download their preferred courses and plan their games accordingly.

DiveView maps are available with the Garmin Descent Mk3i dive smartwatch for divers. Covering over 4,000 dive sites, these maps provide bathymetric depth contours, helping divers locate shipwrecks, spearfishing areas, and other underwater points of interest. The maps overlay existing TopoActive regional maps for enhanced underwater navigation.

Marine mapping solutions include Garmin Navionics+ charts, preloaded on devices such as the GPSMAP 9000 series and ECHOMAP Ultra 2 series chartplotters. These charts offer coastal and inland coverage, daily updates, and an option to upgrade to Garmin Navionics Vision+ for additional features.

Garmin states that its mapping solutions are designed to integrate with various compatible devices, supporting users across different outdoor environments.
