How to Use a Garmin Smart Scale to Achieve Weight Loss and Fitness Goals
Garmin provides devices to help users track their health and fitness progress, with the Index S2 smart scale offering body composition measurements for monitoring key metrics.
The scale records weight, body mass index, body fat percentage, bone mass, and body water percentage. For accurate readings, Garmin recommends stepping on the scale barefoot in the morning before eating, drinking, or exercising. Weight can be tracked in pounds, kilograms, or stones and pounds, while the weight trend feature displays fluctuations over 30 days, using the latest weigh-in as the daily record.

Body mass index is calculated by dividing weight in kilograms by height in square meters, offering an estimate of overall body mass. The smart scale also measures body fat percentage, contributing to metabolism and temperature regulation. Skeletal muscle mass tracking distinguishes between muscle gain and fat loss, as muscle weighs more than fat. Bone mass estimation indicates the portion of total weight attributed to bones, while body water percentage helps assess hydration levels, particularly for those engaged in physical activity.
Users who prefer to track only their weight can disable body composition features. Multiple daily weigh-ins can be recorded and accessed via the Garmin Connect app.
The Index S2 connects to the Garmin Connect app via Bluetooth, with an option to sync over home Wi-Fi for faster updates. Supporting up to 16 profiles, it enables multiple users to monitor their progress individually through their Garmin Connect accounts.
