Garmin Marine Chart Updates Reach 9.8 Million in 2024
Garmin has reported 9.8 million marine chart updates worldwide in 2024, nearly doubling the number from the previous year. These updates incorporate data from official sources and user-submitted depth information, refining details such as shorelines, marina layouts, navigation aids, and underwater hazards.
According to Garmin, fishing charts saw significant updates, with sonar logs integrated into Garmin fishing maps reaching 8.7 million in 2024. The company states that this data, collected through user sonar logs and targeted survey activities, provides more detailed information on frequently visited fishing locations. Additionally, relief shading improvements have been made using crowdsourced depth data and lake surveys, offering enhanced high-resolution visuals for mariners.
Further updates include approximately 110,600 miles of coastline refinements, more than 20,000 Notice to Mariner updates, nearly 17,000 electronic navigation chart revisions, and the integration of almost 900 new official paper charts. Garmin users can view the latest updates on the company’s Chart Viewer and access new charts through Garmin’s website.
