Both are premium GPS multisport smartwatches, but the fēnix 8 introduces several new features.

The fēnix 8 Series offers a bright AMOLED display or a solar charging option with a memory-in-pixel (MIP) screen, providing a choice between enhanced visibility or extended battery life. The fēnix 7 Series includes a transflective MIP screen that remains visible in sunlight but does not feature an AMOLED option. The fēnix 8 – 47 mm AMOLED model includes a larger 1.4-inch display with a resolution of 454 x 454 pixels, compared to the 1.3-inch, 260 x 260-pixel display on the fēnix 7.

Battery life varies by model and size, with larger versions offering extended performance. The fēnix 8 – 51 mm provides 50 percent more solar power than its predecessor, achieving up to 30 days in smartwatch mode or up to 48 days with solar charging. The fēnix 7X Pro – 51 mm, Solar Edition, lasts up to 28 days in smartwatch mode or 37 days with solar charging. The fēnix 8 Series, therefore, delivers longer battery life.

Additional upgrades include the ability to make and receive phone calls through a built-in speaker and microphone when paired with a phone. It also allows voice commands for watch functions without requiring an internet connection. The fēnix 8 supports scuba and apnoea diving activities to depths of 40 metres, retaining the same 10 ATM water rating as the fēnix 7. The device is designed for durability, featuring leakproof inductive buttons and a metal sensor guard for added protection.

The fēnix 8 introduces two display options, improved battery life, additional smart features, and enhanced durability.
