Garmin Pay: Common Issues and Fixes

Garmin Pay is a contactless payment feature allowing users to purchase using compatible Garmin devices. While the system is designed for ease of use, some users may experience issues. Identifying common problems and applying the appropriate solutions can help ensure smooth transactions.

If a payment is declined, check that Garmin Pay supports the payment card and has been added correctly in the Garmin Connect app. Ensuring that the card has not expired, has sufficient funds, and is not blocked by the bank is also recommended. If issues persist, removing and re-adding the card may resolve the problem. Remember also that the problem could lie with the seller’s card terminal.

If you cannot add your card because your bank is not supported, workarounds include intermediary platforms like Curve, which offers a free way to link your card to Garmin PAY.

If the watch fails to communicate with the payment terminal, verify that Garmin Pay is set up and the correct card is selected. Holding the watch close to the terminal with the display facing it may improve connectivity. Restarting the watch and trying again may also help. If problems continue, confirming with the merchant that contactless payments are accepted is advised.

Forgotten passcodes require a reset in the Garmin Connect app. If the passcode is entered incorrectly three times, the wallet locks and resetting is necessary. To prevent repeated lockouts, choose a memorable but secure code.

For security reasons, Garmin Pay requires the passcode to be entered again if the watch is removed or heart rate monitoring is disabled. If the system requests a passcode unexpectedly, checking that the watch is worn correctly and heart rate monitoring is active may help prevent interruptions.

In cases where Garmin Pay does not appear in the Garmin Connect app, confirm your watch supports the feature and that the app is up to date. Restarting the phone and watch or reinstalling the app may restore functionality.

If problems persist, contacting Garmin Support or the card issuer may be necessary. Keeping firmware and apps updated and ensuring correct setup can help minimise issues with Garmin Pay.
