Garmin Descent G2 Dive Computer Watch

Garmin has introduced the Descent G2, a dive computer watch designed for underwater exploration and everyday use. The device supports multiple dive modes, including technical diving and freediving, incorporating health, fitness, and connectivity features. It also includes a dive readiness score made with recycled ocean-bound plastics. The battery lasts up to 10 days in smartwatch mode.

According to Garmin, the Descent G2 is designed for divers of all experience levels, with features that extend beyond diving. The device includes heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and stress measurement to support overall well-being.

The watch has a 1.2-inch AMOLED display designed for visibility in various conditions. Its housing, bezel, and buttons are made from recycled materials, and it features a sapphire lens, a case rated for depths of up to 100 meters, and leakproof buttons. Two colour options are available, along with QuickFit bands, for easy customisation.

The dive readiness feature evaluates factors such as sleep, stress, exercise, and jet lag to provide insights into the body’s preparedness for diving. A higher score may indicate readiness, while a lower score could suggest dive settings or intensity adjustments.

The watch includes multiple dive modes, supporting single and multi-gas dives, closed-circuit rebreathers, and gauge mode. Additional features include a built-in 3-axis compass and a big numbers mode for improved readability. Freediving tools include dynamic apnea tracking, customisable alerts, and a variometer that provides feedback on descent and ascent rates. A velocity chart logs dive performance and syncs with the Garmin Dive app.

After diving, users can review logs, track gear, and record notes through the Garmin Dive app. Surface GPS allows for the tracking of entry and exit points for reference.

Beyond diving, the Descent G2 offers health and fitness tracking, including heart rate monitoring, sleep analysis, and Pulse Ox measurements. Preloaded sports apps cover cycling, open-water swimming, and strength training. The device also provides adaptive training plans, recovery insights, and VO2 max tracking.

When connected to a compatible smartphone, users can receive notifications, access Garmin Connect for health insights, use Garmin Pay for contactless payments, and download apps from the Connect IQ store. Safety features include incident detection and LiveTrack.

The Descent G2 is available now with a suggested retail price of $699.99.
